Academic Senate

The VŠE Academic Senate is a self-administrative elected academic body. Each academic elects the members of the Senate. The law no. 111/98 coll. on Czech institutions of higher learning and the Statute of VŠE define the fundamental aims and functions of the Senate. The members of the Senate are elected for three years.

The most important tasks of the Senate which follow from the aforementioned Law include approving the internal University regulations, the budget, the annual reports on the activities and on the management of the finances, the Rector´s proposals for the appointment and recalling of members of the Board of Academics, the conditions for admittance to the University, the long-term guidelines of educational and research projects. The Senate controls the effective use of financial resources. The Rector is elected by the Senate whose choice is then submitted to the President of the Republic for official approval.

Currently, the Senate comprises twenty-one members including eight students. There is a strict parity of votes representing each Faculty. During an academic year there are at least five sessions of the Senate which are open to any University member.
