Awara Title: Export Promotion and the Global Economic Crisis Abstract: The importance of export promotion and marketing cannot be overemphasized. This is because of the attendant economic flow into the home country. Because of these benefits, Nigeria as a sovereign nation has been involved in exportation of goods and services. After forty-nine years of independence, Nigeria´s export drive has failed to yield the expected economic benefits to the country. The export promotion policies of the government appear to be ineffective. This paper highlights the export promotion and marketing problems in Nigeria and the lessons therein. The paper contains recommendations that authors believe would produce result-oriented export promotion strategies and a strong and healthy economy in the face of the current global economic crisis. These corporations have costs linked with business in foreign countries compared to their domestic competitors. Therefore, in the long term, they must have particular advantages over domestic firms. These advantages are external to the market system, and in order to make them exist, a governmental activity is necessary. The government, through its intervention on the market, increases transaction costs of using the market mechanism, and through this, it also increases the influence of multinational corporations. Today, the issue is the influence of active external macroeconomic policy and the policy towards investors which uses incentives for them. The bargaining between governments and MNCs has conformed more to the market rules. However, at the same time, it has also become more institutionalised and still remains in the mercantilistic tradition. We try to see whether the level of education itself and participation in training programmes increased the chances of finding a job. More specifically, we examine the social and demographic characteristics that increase the chances of someone in the examined population finding a job, how those chances change (if they do) after the introduction of training courses and, also, whether university graduates, in contrast to most of the rest of the EU member states, face greater difficulties in finding a job than non-university graduates, as a series of studies for Greece conclude. In our analysis we use individual anonymised records (micro-data) of the Labour Force Survey (LFS) for both employed and unemployed at NUTS-2 level.
