Information for authors

The types of text published in Prague Economic Papers are articles, discussion or polemical articles, consultations, survey articles, book reviews or annotations.

Prague Economic Papers is Open Accessed journal. Papers are published free of charge Online First then Printed.

The Prague Economic Papers Journal undertakes to observe and oversee the publication ethics and quality of published articles. Therefore, it is expected from the authors, editors, reviewers and publishers to obey the standards of ethical behaviour.

Code of Ethics:

Authors They commit themselves that in their contributions they will discuss the benefits of their research objectively, based on the publishing rules, including compliance with citation standards and guidelines of the Editorial Office. Fraudulent or knowingly inaccurate conclusions are considered to be unethical, and hence unacceptable for the Prague Economic Papers Journal.

By submitting their paper to the Editorial Office the authors confirm that it is their original work. If words and/or works of other authors have been used, it must be explicitly stated in the paper. The authors are not allowed to send their manuscript for consideration, when it is subject to assessment in another journal, or vice versa to send to the other periodical the manuscript, which is assessed at a given moment by the Prague Economic Papers Journal. The author, who is responsible for the text, is obliged to ensure the consent of all co-authors of the work (if there are more authors) with its final wording and submission for publication.

Editorial Office It undertakes to ensure objective evaluation of the manuscript, solely on the basis of its academic qualities. It is obliged to observe the anonymous evaluation of the manuscript by the reviewers, as well as the anonymity of reviewers. The Editorial Office is responsible for evaluating and processing possibly raised complaints related to unethical misconduct in the published (or submitted) paper, that are submitted to the Executive Board of the Journal, as well as for the formal and linguistic editing of the manuscript.

Reviewers The manuscripts must be treated as confidential documents. Information or ideas obtained through evaluation of the manuscript are considered confidential and shall not be used for the benefit of reviewers. Evaluation is carried out objectively, comments are based on arguments and clearly formulated. If the selected reviewer does not feel competent to assess the quality of the manuscript, or is aware that he/she will not be able to express an opinion within a specified quality and timeframe, he/she must immediately inform the editor and resign from the review procedure. Reviewers do not evaluate manuscripts if they have a conflict of interest resulting from competitive, cooperating or other relationship that they have with some of the authors of the assessed manuscript.

Review:

The reviewing process in PEP is double blind, takes about four months and consists of two stages. In stage 1 the originality of the paper is assessed as well as the topics suitability. Originality is tested by iThenticate. (Papers published on indexed conferences are not original.) Papers which have passed the stage 1 will continue to stage 2, where the content of paper is rated.

The content of papers is reviewed anonymously by a team of our referees and discussed by the Executive Board of the journal; the author(s) are informed about the Board decision in written. The claim to the publication of the paper is not legally enforceable.

Submission:

Papers are submitted in British English only by reviewing system accessed via Prague Economic Papers webpage containing following obligatory items:

  • paper in full length including the author(s) name(s), affiliation(s), email(s), information about Grant/Project, in the DOC or DOCX format (MS Word text editor) or PDF format (with numbers of characters (incl. spaces));
  • blind paper - the full text without author’s name and any personal indicators in the PDF format;
  • Figures, Pictures, Schemas, etc. (editable) in separate files in original program (xls, tif, eps).

By submitting paper author/s declare that:

  • the paper is an outcome of author. If words and/or works of other authors have been used, it is explicitly stated in the paper;
  • the paper was not published elsewhere neither is considered for publication elsewhere. The authors are not allowed to send their manuscript for consideration, when it is subject to assessment in another journal, or vice versa to send to the other periodical the manuscript, which is assessed at a given moment by the Prague Economic Papers journal;
  • the submitted work was not previously pre-published (e.g. as Ph.D. thesis, technical report, working paper, author´s web pages, conference proceedings, etc.) and if so, the manuscript contains (on first page) reference(s) to those pre-prints; Papers published on indexed conferences are not original;
  • the submitted work was not published in a conference proceedings, the author confirms that the conference admits a later journal publication;
  • paper is not an extension of some previously published work, and if so, the manuscript contains (on first page) reference(s) to previous paper(s) and short comments on how the work was modified.

Formal requirements:

A minimum of formatting is required – please, use only bold and italics fonts when appropriate (e.g. variables italic, constants not italic, etc.).

The length of articles is 30,000–40,000 printable characters (including the complete text with abstract, list of references, etc. and counting in the spaces and footnotes), book reviews should have up to 10,000 characters and annotations up to 3,500 characters. Length of title of paper is max. 80 characters.

The pages of the manuscript should be numbered as well as the chapters of the text (max. two levels). Abstract (max. 1,000 characters), Keywords (3–6) and JEL classification (3–6) have to be included.

Tables are written by Word tool (not pasted as pictures). Data sources need to be included.

Any less frequent concepts and abbreviations should be explained in the text.

Write the footnotes at the bottom of a page and number them consecutively.

Figures, schemas, etc. are placed in Word with title, note and source only for orientation purpose (not editable). All Figures, etc. need to be enclosed in separate editable files (format of original programme – xls, tif, eps; min. 300 dpi, 128 mm). Arial, 8. Figures in Word need to be identical to figures in separate editable files. Use dashed, dotted, etc. or marks ◼, ♦, ▲, •, etc. in Figures. Remember that the included coloured figures and graphs will be printed in black and white; consider whether they will not lose their lucidity.

Equations must be uniformly formatted. Equations should be created using the tools integrated in Word editor or in the MathType (Times New Roman, 10) software preferably. Easy equations write as Word symbols, e.g. (β = α – 1). (how to write)

References within the text should contain only the first item of the cited document (usually the author’s surname) and the year of its publication – e.g. Samuelson (1989); if a citation is included, indicate the respective page.

At the end of the manuscript a list of references in alphabetical order according to the References Style standard have to be included. Write all DOI numbers to references (use e.g. https://www.crossref.org/ to find them).

Any manuscript which will not conform to those requirements will be returned to the author(s).

Author´s proof:

When the accepted paper will be ready for print, the authors will be prompted to verify the correctness of the final text. This author’s proof should be send to the editorial office within four days; no alterations that would change the length of the manuscript are permissible.
