CEMS students between 100 teams for Round 2 of the Airbus Fly Your Ideas global student challenge

Team CEMS Air from University of Economics, Prague was selected from over 500 teams worldwide to participate in Round 2 of the competition Airbus Fly Your Ideas global student challenge. Students were asked to develop an innovative idea or solution to tackle one of the critical challenge in aviation industry nowadays: energy, efficiency, affordable growth, traffic growth, passenger experience and community friendliness.

Members of the team are: Melle Tsz Wan Li (CEMS, University of Economics Prague), Martin Kotrba (CEMS, University of Economics Prague), Kalpi Mittal (CEMS, Indian Institute of Management Calcutta, exchange at University of Economics, Prague) and Dalibor Karásek (Czech Technical University Prague) with Ladislav Tyll as an Academic Mentor.

After a thorough evaluation process by over 50 Airbus experts and innovators judging more than 500 ideas, Airbus has selected the 100 teams that have made it into Round Two of the fourth edition of the global student competition Fly Your Ideas organized in partnership with UNESCO. The 100 teams comprise of 413 students representing 48 different nationalities. Airbus assigned each team with a mentor and a technical advisor for proceeding the idea development further. In round 2 students need to submit the following:

  1. Provide a simple, hand-drawn sketch of the idea
  2. Develop a report of up to 5,000 words about the idea
  3. Create a video of up to 2 minutes long about the team and the idea

Just the top five teams will make it to the final and present their ideas at a live event at Airbus facilities in May 2015. The winning team will receive a €30,000 prize, the runner up team €15,000. What sets Fly Your Ideas apart from other global student competitions is the deep and company-wide engagement of the Airbus teams. The mentors and experts are drawn from right across the business, and include non-technical professionals as well as engineers and aviation experts.
