ECO TEAM VŠE: Joining forces for sustainable development of the university – Come to the exhibition!

Prague University of Economics and Business (VŠE) has taken an important step towards sustainability. At the beginning of March, the newly formed ECO team of the VŠE, composed of students and staff of the university, met for the first time. The first informal ECO Team breakfast was attended by 50 students and staff, including the school’s top management. The event was supported by the Rector of the VŠE Petr Dvořák, Vice-Rector Pavel Hnát and Bursar Tomáš Zouhar.

The Rector and Vice-Rector together with Jan Smrčka, Director of Development and Strategy of the TEREZA Education Centre, opened the breakfast. VŠE recently signed a memorandum of cooperation with this educational center, which is the national operator of the international EcoCampus system. With the help of the ECO team, this system will be gradually developed at the VŠE.

ECO team of VŠE is already working

The newly formed ECO team of the VŠE has already held its first working meeting and is actively involved in planning sustainable initiatives at the university. This team is becoming an important player in promoting environmentally friendly and cost-effective changes at the VŠE.

Nikol Scheufler, a student of Taxation and Tax Policy at the FFA, was elected as the ECO TEAM chairperson at the first working meeting on March 18. The meeting was opened by the Bursar of the VŠE, Tomáš Zouhar, and was attended by over 40 students and staff. In addition to the leadership elections, the team was structured into 12 sub-teams with different areas of expertise. The next working meeting is scheduled for April 22.

Partnership for Sustainability

Collaboration between TEREZA, an educational centre, z.ú. and the VŠE aims to connect academia with the non-profit sector and promote education and research in the field of sustainability. Both institutions have entered into a Strategic School-wide Partnership, which focuses on the implementation of the Sustainability Strategy of the VŠE. Key areas include sharing know-how, developing the EcoSchool and EcoCampus programme and supporting the implementation of sustainable initiatives at other universities. The piloting and development of the EcoCampus programme at VŠE will enable students to actively participate in decision-making on sustainability issues on university campuses.

The Memorandum with TEREZA is the second major contractual commitment of the VŠE in the area of sustainability within the NPO Green Deal. Back in September 2024, the school signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the Business Leaders Forum, a national platform focused on corporate sustainability.
