Prague University of Economics and Business at Responsible Management Education Week in New York
American universities remain committed to the sustainability agenda. This was clearly demonstrated at the recent prestigious Responsible Management Education Week conference in the United States, which was also attended by Dr. Petr Procházka from the Faculty of International Relations at the Prague University of Economics and Business (VŠE). The event, which brought together three major conferences focused on sustainable education and research in business, took place on the Cornell Tech campus in New York and was hosted by Cornell University—one of the world’s top universities (currently ranked 16th globally).
“Business schools are gradually shifting from a narrow focus on profit toward a broader emphasis on social impact,” says Procházka. The aim is to adapt teaching, particularly at economically focused universities. During the conference workshops, attended by leading scholars primarily from the U.S. and Europe, best practices in both teaching and research were discussed.
The event also featured a speech by Chelsea Clinton, daughter of the former U.S. president, who spoke about the importance of education in general and emphasized that everyone should care about the quality of education their children receive, regardless of age.
More than 380 researchers and educators from over 100 business schools around the world attended the event.
The event was unique not only in its scope but also in the collaboration of three key organizations:
-
PRME (Principles for Responsible Management Education, a UN initiative) – focused on integrating the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into business education.
-
AACSB, an accreditation body of which VŠE is a certified member – focused on approaches to measuring social impact in higher education curricula.
-
RRBM (Responsible Research in Business and Management) – strives to reform research in favor of tangible societal benefits.
VŠE was represented at the event by Ing. Mgr. Petr Procházka, Ph.D. from the Department of International Business.
“In addition to the keynote by Chelsea Clinton, I had the opportunity to listen to 88 speakers and facilitators, connect with over 50 business schools from around the world, and gain inspiration for innovations in teaching and research,” says Procházka.
