VŠE Women’s Basketball Team Scored at the European Universities Championship in Bologna

The VŠE Prague women’s basketball team took part in the prestigious European Universities Championship (EUC) in July 2025, hosted by the University of Bologna in Italy. The tournament ran from July 6 to 13 and featured 16 top university teams from 12 European countries, selected based on national results and performance coefficients.

The VŠE team earned their place at the EUC thanks to their victory in the University Basketball League (UBL) during the 2023/24 season and a second-place finish in the 2024/25 season.

The tournament didn’t start easily for our players – in the group stage, they faced two of the strongest teams in the competition: the host University of Bologna and the team from the University of Valencia, who later met in the tournament final.

In the classification group for 9th–12th place, our players achieved valuable wins against the universities of Aveiro (Portugal) and Delft (Netherlands). They narrowly lost to the team from the University of Győr (Hungary), finishing the tournament in 10th place overall in Europe, with a record of 2 wins and 3 losses.

The VŠE team received special recognition for their exemplary conduct – they were awarded 1st place in the Fair Play Trophy, which honors not only on-court discipline but also the overall attitude and behavior of the team throughout the tournament.

Congratulations to our players for their excellent performance and outstanding representation of our university on the European stage! We look forward to more success in the upcoming UBL season, which kicks off this fall in Prague.
