CEMS Day 2014 – Summary

On Wednesday, October 22, 2014 the traditional event CEMS Day was held. This whole-day informative event was dedicated to presenting the prestigious Master´s programme in International Management/CEMS MIM which is organized by the Faculty of Business Administration and is fully run in English language.

In the CEMS booth placed in the atrium of Rajska Building current students of this prestigious programme shared their experience with prospective students, answered their questions relating mainly to the admission procedure, semester and internship abroad and cooperation with corporate partners. Candidates could also win some goodies as a reward for correct answers in a quiz.

An interesting experience for students was definitely the Mock Assessment Center. Martina Fischerová from the Department of Managerial Psychology and Sociology explained to students the reasons of using AC in the 2nd round of admission procedure and what to expect. Participants also had the opportunity to solve one case and get a feedback. The capacity of the AC was full one week before the event.

At the end of the day, an introduction meeting and a discussion with CEMS alumni took place. CEMS Academic Director, Ladislav Tyll, MBA and CEMS Programme Manager, Pavlína Frydrychová introduced the CEMS Programme, doc. Daniela Pauknerová, Head of the Department of Managerial Psychology and Sociology, presented the AC in detail.

We could also welcome 3 CEMS alumni – Václav Duda, Senior Product Manager in the company Vodafone Czech Republic a.s., Tomáš Křížek, CFO in the company Europe Easy Energy a.s., and Michal Sládek, Principal in the company Arthur D. Little GmbH. The main topics of the discussion included the benefits of the CEMS programme from the point of view of career opportunities as well as it covered experience and stories of alumni from the times of their studies. Basically, all participants concluded that the decision to join CEMS has been one of the best they could make for their future career. The greatest benefits they appreciate are the international scope of the programme, practically oriented courses, networking and access to job opportunities.

The whole event was closed with the CEMS Drink, an informal meeting in the university surroundings, organized by CEMS Club Prague.

The Master´s Programme in International Management is a full-time two-year academic training programme for students at bachelor level with interests and career intentions in international companies and international environment. The programme provides students with a comprehensive business education in the main fields of economics, management, finance, marketing, cross-cultural communication and negotiations. Management porgramme has been placed 5thin the 2014 Financial Times Global Masters in Management rankings, maintaining its place in the top 10 every year since the rankings began in 2005.

Nowadays, the tuition for the International Management/CEMS programme is 1.800 EUR, approximately 50.000 CZK. However, this expenditure is compensated by scholarships that are available and well accessible and also by the opportunity to get a desired job during or after studies.

The application deadline is on February 27, 2015. One criterion is an excellent level of English approved by a certificate: CAE (A, B), CPE, BEC Higher (A, B), TOEFL ibT ≥ 100, IELST ≥ 7.0 or Bachelor’s studies in English at completed at particular universities. VSE students can complete the CAE or BEC Higher certificate in the Department of English Language and get 50% of the fee back. The terms for the upcoming CAE certificate are on December 5, 2014 and January 17, 2015, the term for BEC Higher is on January 24, 2015. You have to apply at least 2 weeks before the test, the results are announced 2 weeks after the test.
