Rector’s Sports Day at VŠE in 2016
In the Wednesday, 20th April, 2016, the annual Rector’s Sports Day was held at the University of Economics, Prague. The program was full of sports activities for students and University employees, as well as giving participants the opportunity to learn more about sport directly from qualified professionals.
The organizers of the football tournament, UniCup, arranged an interactive seminar “Sport, Education and Culture Nowadays” important personalities were in attendance. The seminar was opened by Prof. Hana Machková, Rector of the University of Economics, Prague, who, in her opening presentation introduced the Centre for Physical Education and Sports of the University of Economics, Prague, as well as the University’s extensive sports facilities and the various physical activities, in which students and staff participate during the year.
During the morning session of the seminar, participants had the opportunity to learn about the current situation in the sports sphere in Prague, about the issues of the financing and development of the largest running series in the Czech Republic. The City Councillor of Prague for Culture and Sport, Jan Wolf said that more than 60% of Prague’s inhabitants are actively involved in sport, and that from a total of 35,000 sports clubs in the Czech Republic, more than 4,800 are located in Prague. Other speakers in this section were the chairman of the Czech Union of Sport Miroslav Jansta and Carlo Capalbo, founder of the Prague International Marathon Project.
The afternoon session was devoted to the practical part of the sport, namely to the performance of athletes at amateur and top levels, nutrition and lifestyle, as well as to the harmony of mental and physical aspects of the sport. Guests in this section were the Head of Department of Cardiovascular Surgery IKEM Prof. Jan Pirk, physiotherapist Dagmar Mostecká and nutrition specialist Petr Havlíček.
The Rector’s Sports Day was primarily intended for active sportsmen. The VSE’s multifunctional sports hall at Třebešín hosted, for example, the Volleyball tournament for mixed teams. The announcement of the tournament’s was also attended by the Rector of the VŠE Prof. Machková. She personally congratulated the teams which were placed in the top three, as well as encouraging the participants in the mixed team floorball and basketball tournament.
