Honoris Causa Title for Professor Hans-Werner Sinn

On the 23rd of February, Professor Hans-Werner Sinn, an internationally renowned scientist in the field of Macroeconomics and Economic Policy, will receive the honorary degree Doctor oeconomiae honoris causa from the Rector of the University of Economics, Prague (VŠE) professor Hana Machková.

The conferral ceremony will take place on Thursday 23rd February 2017 at 4.30 p.m. in the Vencovského Aula. Students, pedagogues and graduates of VŠE as well as members of the public are invited to this solemn and joyous occasion. Please, register here.

Professor Sinn is former president of the Ifo-Institut für Wirtschaftsforschung, CEO of CESifo GmbH and director of the Center for Economic Studies at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich. At the same university he is emeritus Professor of Macroeconomics and Public Finance. His professional focus is particularly general Macroeconomics, taxes, social systems, common European currency and its crisis, risk theory or models of macroeconomic equilibrium.

During his rich scientific career he published over 140 scientific articles, including over 80 texts in leading international journals, including an American Economic Review, Journal of Public Economics, or Quarterly Journal of Economics. Sinn belongs to the most cited German scientists and is appreciated by academic and wider public with many of his often ground-breaking publications on current economic and political issues. Sinn published a total of 11 large monographs (translated into many languages), and 17 smaller publications that greatly influenced the economic and political practice.

His book ‘Ist Deutschland noch zu Retten? “(2003) intervened significantly in public debate about the direction of German economic policy, as well as the government’s Agenda 2020. This book, with more than 100 thousand copies sold, became one of the bestselling books in the public policy in history. His next books, “Die Basarökonomie” (2005), “Der Kasino-Kapitalismus ” (2009) and “The Euro Trap: On Bursting Bubbles, Budgets, and Beliefs” (2014) aroused great international interest and won numerous professional and literary awards.
