Prague Conference on Political Economy – PCPE 2008

Fourth annual conference on political economy, economic theory and history, law and economics and the relation between economics and politics is organized by the Faculty of Economics and Public Administration. Participants from universities in Europe, USA, Canada as well as from Taiwan will be presenting their papers. We expect to have several participants from Africa.

Prague Conference on Political Economy: April 18 – 20, 2008.

The program held on Friday takes place in RB101 and is open to public. We hope that both students and members of the faculty of VŠE will not miss the opportunity to see the lectures delivered by distinguished world economists.

During the ceremony on Friday, April 18, 2-6 p.m., two memorial lectures will be delivered. These are named after two economists whose life and work were strongly linked with the city of Prague.

Friedrich Wieser Memorial Lecture

will be delivered by prof. Bruno Frey (University of Zurich),
one of the most influential European economists ever. Prof. Frey is author of more than a dozen books and more than 350 articles in professional academic journals including the American Economic Review, Review of Economics and Statistics, Economic Journal, Journal of Economic Perspectives, Journal of Economic Literature, Journal of Public Economics, Journal of Law and Economics.

František Čuhel Memorial Lecture

will be delivered by Prof. Thomas DiLorenzo (Loyola College in Maryland).
DiLorenzo has authored at least ten books, including The Real Lincoln: A New Look at Abraham Lincoln, His Agenda, and an Unnecessary War; How Capitalism Saved America: The Untold History of Our Country, From the Pilgrims to the Present; and Lincoln Unmasked: What You’re Not Supposed To Know about Dishonest Abe. He publishes in such journals as American Economic Review, Journal of Labor Research, Economic Inquiry, Southern Economic Journal, The Review of Austrian Economics, Public Finance Quarterly.

Professors Pascal Salin (University of Paris, Dauphine), Victoria Curson Price (University of Geneva), Enrico Colombatto (University of Turin), Johan Norberg (author of a world best seller In Defense of Global Capitalism), Jacques Garello (University of Aix en Provence), princess Hildegarde von Liechtenstein at the PCPE 2006.
