Jindřichův Hradec celebrates 25 years of higher education

2017

Exactly twenty-five years ago the very first classes of higher education started in Jindřichův Hradec. On the premises of the former District Committee of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia, its history slowly began to form, at the end of which, one of the faculties of the University of Economics, Prague – the Faculty of Management stands today.

In 1992, the first classes under the auspices of the University of South Bohemia took place in Jindřichův Hradec, at that time as a detached workplace of the Faculty of Education with two institutes – the Institute of Regional Management and the Institute of Language Preparation. In 1994, an independent Faculty of Management was established by a resolution of the Accreditation Commission. After a series of negotiations, the faculty officially became part of the University of Economics in January 1998.

This year is therefore a year for reflection, not only for the Faculty of Management but also for the whole history of education in Jindřichův Hradec. For this occasion, the Faculty of Management is organising official celebrations with focus on the development of higher education in Jindřichův Hradec. The exhibition, “Faculty of Management in the Mirror of Time”, has been prepared as part of the celebrations and maps both the development of the place and the building where the faculty is located as well as the development of the faculty and its life itself. It also maps the development of the faculty’s library, whose history also dates back to 1992. The exhibition compares history with the present and sets a mirror in which one can observe the retrospective journey that higher education in Jindřichův Hradec has undergone in the last twenty-five years. The actual development of the building, or more precisely its transformation from the original seat of the Czechoslovak Communist Party to today’s modern form, will be introduced by the architect of the present form of the building, Milan Špulák, who will conduct a guided tour of the building.

The official part of the celebration will be accompanied by the Rector of the University of Economics, Prague, Prof. Hana Machková, the Dean of the Faculty of Management, Vladislav Bína, and the Mayor of Jindřichův Hradec, Stanislav Mrvka.
