Doctoral study at UEP

In the 2008/09 academic year, the University of Economics, Prague (UEP) offers fifteen PhD programs that are taught in English. The application deadline is May 15, 2008.

The study of the PhD program is organized in a full-time form, distance form or combined form. The standard length of study is three academic years. The maximum time limit is five years. The entrance examinations for both forms are organized jointly and it is possible to apply only for one study program.

Foreign students wishing study, sit for examinations, write and defend their doctoral thesis in a foreign language will have to pay a fee. Foreign students in study programs in Czech do not pay the fee.

In the full-time form, students are entitled to be granted a scholarship for their three years of study. Full-time doctoral students are fully involved in the department’s activities (teaching, grants, publications, conferences). They can also apply for residential accommodation in the university’s residence halls. The distance-form doctoral students are not entitled to any scholarships or residential accommodation.

The application deadline is May 15, 2008. The application form must have the following documents enclosed: a short curriculum vitae, a document certifying the level of the applicant’s academic attainment or a certified copy of a diploma and diploma supplement, list of publications with short annotation and possibly an expert’s reference attached, the applicant’s intended thesis of his/her doctoral dissertation according to the request of relevant faculty. The applicant should also enclose a confirmation about payment of the application fee.

The entrance examination differs according to the special requirements of each faculty but is generally taken in the major line subjects and in two foreign languages. The entrance exams will take place on June 20, 2008 (backup term is September 19, 2008).
