Fight Hunger: Walk the World 2006

All around the globe, people came out in force to deliver one message: child hunger has no place in this world and citizens working together can root it out.

The event, organized by the United Nations World Food Program (UN WFP) has been initiated 3 years ago by its humanitarian partner TNT. Aim of the Walk is to engage citizens worldwide to achieve Millenium Development Goal 1: To eradicate extreme poverty and hunger. The Walk raises awareness towards the existence of hunger and funds to solve it. The Walk reunites an increasing number of participants each year and is planned to become the biggest, most visible, annual humanitarian event in man history.

In Czech Republic, Walk the World event is organised by the association VARA CZ, in cooperation with Karel Schwarzenberg – Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, Milan Jirásek – Chairman of The Czech Olympic Committee and organisations by OSN in the Czech Republic (United Nations Information Centre Prague, UNICEF, UNHCR a WHO). This year on 13th May, the walk will start at 9,30 a.m. at Střelecký ostrov in Prague. There will be a music festival afterwards and evening party at the club Rock Café on Národní třída.
