The University of Economics, Prague (VŠE) offers six international master’s degree programs taught in English: Master of International Management (CEMS MIM), Master of International Business – Central European Business Realities (IB), Master of Economics of Globalisation and European Integration (EGEI), Master of Economic and Regional Studies of Latin America (CLAS), Master of Finance and Accounting for Common Europe (FINAC), and Master of International and Diplomatic Studies (IDS).

The Center for Latin American Studies (CLAS) of the Faculty of Economics at the University of Economics, Prague (VŠE) offers a full-time, two-year Master’s Program in Economic and Regional Studies of Latin America. The program offers two options; the first is to study in Prague for the duration of the degree, and the second is the opportunity to obtain a double degree, one from the University of Economics in Prague and the second from a Latin American university where the student can spend the second year of their studies. The program´s language in the Czech Republic is English.

The objective of the CLAS program is to provide graduates with knowledge that will enable them to understand the economic and social systems of Latin America and Europe. It provides students with the skills and knowledge to work in the professional and managerial functions needed to operate in the areas of economic cooperation between the EU, Czech Republic and Latin American countries, as well as the private and financial sectors. Graduates will be able to create strategies for public administration and will also obtain information concerning the Czech Republic’s experience in the field of economic transformation and restructuring, solving regional disparities and programs focused on human resource development, which could be applied in Latin America.

This program offers a great opportunity to obtain a double degree and acquire substantial international experience simultaneously. Students can finish their second year of their studies in one of several prestigious Latin American universities. They can choose to study in English or Spanish, depending on the program and partner university chosen. The students who choose this option will graduate with two degrees, one from the Czech University and another from a partner university. The experience abroad will immerse students in the international field, which is a tremendous asset when searching for internships and jobs in the future.

For those not interested in the double degree, but interested in obtaining international exposure, there is the possibility to study abroad for one semester in Latin America during the 3rd or 4th semester.

The program’s courses cover Latin American integration processes, economics, and geography, as well as social, cultural and environmental aspects and their international character. CLAS works with many distinguished Latin American and Caribbean Ambassadors to coordinate a special semester course which covers their respective countries, their potential, economic realities, etc. As part of the CLAS Master’s Program, the center welcomes visiting professors from prestigious universities and international organizations, such as Diego Sánchez Ancochea from the University of Oxford; Andrés Solimano, from the Center for Globalization and International Development (Chile); José de Arimatéia da Cruz, from Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah, Georgia (USA); Genaro Sánchez Barajas, from National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM); and Ignacio Ibánez Ferrándiz, from the Organization of American States in Washington, DC (USA).

With regard to the CLAS admission procedure, the application deadline for 2013/2014 is April 30, 2013. The tuition fee is 1 800 EUR per semester.
