Workshop with the Director of the Department of Economic Analyses of the World Economic Forum

On the 27th of September, 2013 Department of International Trade of the Faculty of International Relations organized a workshop on „Global Competitiveness“. The main speaker was Ms. Margareta Drzeniek Hanouz, who is co-author of „Global Competitiveness Report“.

WEF (World Economic Forum) is a recognized international discussion platform. The most famous activity of the WEF is the Economic Forum in Davos, which is regularly attended by world-renowned economists. Since the beginning of the nineties the WEF has been issuing, an annual evaluation of the competitiveness of countries. These publications are among the most cited rankings of competitiveness. During the workshop not only results for the year 2013 – 2014 were presented by Ms.Drzeniek Hanouz, but also the methodology applied by WEF was introduced. Doc. Ing. Štěpán Müller, CSc., Dean of the Faculty of International Relations took advantage of this occasion and proposed a professional cooperation to the WEF. The following speaker was Ing. Martin Tlapa, Deputy Secretary of State for European Affairs by the Government of the Czech Republic. In this year’s ranking the Czech Republic was placed 46. behind Estonia (32) and Poland (42). Among the main reasons for the decline in competitiveness are problematic functioning of institutions and low innovation capacity.
