The students of the University of Economics, Prague (VŠE) have the opportunity to take part in projects for technological companies while they are studying at the University. Two years ago, the Faculty of informatics and statistics at VŠE began to develop „the Competency centers“, where students work on real business projects with the support of the latest information technologies. The Competency centers are one of the tools to connect education with practice. Students of all specializations can now join to these projects. The students of marketing, IT, finance, business economics and others are welcomed.

The first Competency centre at VŠE was opened in 2012 with the support of IBM. Nowadays their number increased and dozens of students have worked in those centers. The centers now cooperate also with others companies as the Komix, the Savoir-Faire, and The Marketing Institute or with the groups of independent investors. Students have realized projects for companies as the complete preparation of modern loyalty program in the retail business, the implementation of internal social networks in large companies, the preparation of open data concepts for public administration institutions and others.

Recently the activities of Competency centers have significantly extended. The groups of students start to design their own innovative products or they are launching their own startups. For example the startup „Asimplia.com“, the complex advisory service for the owners of e-shops.
