Orientation Week for international students

Every year, the Prague University of Economics and Business (VŠE) hosts an Orientation Week for international students. In 2023, this event will take place from September 11th to 15th. We expect that nearly 800 exchange students and degree seeking students in English-taught programs will join the event. The primary objective of the Orientation Week is to acquaint students with the VŠE campus, prepare them for the upcoming semester, facilitate new friendships and enable them to explore the beauty of Prague.

The traditional event, which has developed over the years, is organized by the International Office. The Orientation Week Program encompasses a diverse range of activities. Aside from essential administrative tasks, the programme will also include a lecture on culture shock, a basic Czech language lesson, and a lecture on the cultural history of the Czech lands. This year the new session on Intercultural competences will be added to the programme. The main aim of this session is to prepare incoming students not only for studies in foreign environment but also for an encounter with students from different cultural background.

The “Team Game,” designed to guide students through the Žižkov campus, adds an enjoyable dimension to their understanding of Czech culture. Throughout the programme, students have opportunities to engage in games, become acquainted with student organizations, and relax in the Chillout zone.

Given the large number of incoming students, two Welcome Ceremonies will be held as the most formal and festive events of the week. These ceremonies occur at Vencovského aula and feature a university representative delivering an official welcome speech, followed by captivating cultural dance and musical performance by the Gaudeamus ensemble.
