For the University of Economics, Prague (VŠE), academic year 2011/2012 was very successful. VŠE is one of the most important education institutions in the Czech Republic. It is well respected partner institution in the field of international cooperation as well. The university hosted many conferences, scientific seminars too. In addition, many social, cultural and sports events took place at VŠE.

In academic year 2011/2012, there were more than 19, 000 students at VŠE. According to the Annual Report 2011, there were 3, 316 students at the Faculty of Finance and Accounting; 5, 897 students at the Faculty of International Relations; 3, 561 students at the Faculty of Business Administration; 3, 229 at the Faculty of Informatics and Statistics; 2, 471 students at the Faculty of Economics and 1, 370 students at the Faculty of Management in the town of Jindřichův Hradec. 135 study programmes were offered in all study degrees and forms. The applicants are constantly interested in studying at VŠE. There were 16, 413 applications to study at VŠE in bachelor programmes exceeding four times the programmes´ capacity. 4, 536 students were enrolled in the first year of studies.

International Cooperation

In 2011/2012, VŠE cooperated with more than 170 partner universities from 53 countries. It offered to Czech and foreign students broad spectrum of accredited master´s study programmes and specialized courses in foreign languages. The number of outgoing and incoming students has been increasing. In 2011 for instance, there were 596 outgoing students. The number will have increased again in 2012. Most outgoing students were at partner universities in France, Germany and Austria. In academic year 2011/2012, VŠE was highly successful internationally. For the fourth time in a row, VŠE was awarded with “1st Business School in Eastern Europe” in the ranking by Eduniversal. The university took part in the success of CEMS MIM master programme as well. The programme was ranked by Financial Times (FT) as the 2nd best programme worldwide in the category of “Masters in Management” in 2011. The Business Economics and Management programme by the Faculty of Business Administration was ranked 52nd. In the “FT European Business School Ranking”, VŠE was ranked as the 70th best university in Europe (besides VŠE only two universities in Poland were ranked in the Central and Eastern Europe). Two study programmes were accredited with EPAS by EFMD (European Foundation for Management Development) for the period of 3 years. Those are master´s programmes of International Trade by the Faculty of International Relations and the university´s programme of International Business-Central European Business Realities.

Scientific & Research Activities and Cooperation with Practice

The university has been trying to become involved actively in the research projects and the support of publication activities by its academics and students. For instance, there were 59 research projects at VŠE exceeding the value of CZK 90 million in 2011. VŠE issues many scientific journals. Two of these journals – Politická Ekonomie and Prague Economics Papers are well respected journals with so called impact factor. The journals of Acta Oeconomica Pragensis, Český finanční a účetní časopis, E-Logos, European Financial and Accounting Journal, Odhadce oceňování majetku, Regionální studia and Současná Evropa are listed as peer reviewed journals without the impact factor by the Research, Development and Innovation Council, and advisory body to the Government of the Czech Republic. At the end of academic year 2011/2012, the scientific journals of Central European Business Review and Acta Informatica Pragensia were newly issued. In December 2011, the 5th year of Day of Science at the Prague Universities – Scientia Pragensis took place at VŠE. VŠE continued in successful cooperation with its corporate partners as well. Česká Spořitelna has been the university General Partner for many years. Main corporate partners of the university are ČSOB, Deloitte, Ernst&Young, Komerční banka, KMPG and PWC. In academic year 2011/2012, corporate partners were 3M, Česká pojišťovna, Czech Chamber of Commerce, Konrad Adenauer Stifftung, L´Oréal Czech Republic, Plze?ský Prazdroj and Škoda Auto. In addition, two lastly named companies are CEMS international partners. The VŠE President signed the new cooperation agreements with Microsoft a Procter&Gamble in June. The President signed the cooperation memorandum with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic in April 2012. The companies have a chance of presenting themselves at the job opportunity fair called Šance that is organized by the VŠE Development and Counselling Centre.

Students´ achievements in sports and social events

There are many sports talented students at VŠE. For all the achievements in sports by VŠE students, results of the 11th Year of Czech Academic Games can be mentioned. In team sports, the university was represented in basketball, handball, frisbee, floorball, volleyball and football. In individual sports, the university was represented in athletics, swimming, aerobic, orienteering, table tennis, Olympic gymnastics, badminton, archery and many more. VŠE students won 21 gold, 21 silver and 3 bronze medals in total. The most successful was the handball team becoming the Academic Champion of the Czech Republic. Our swimmers became the absolute winners of swimming competition. Team of our female basketball players won silver medal. Among successful social events, there were VŠE dance ball taking place in December and alumni Day with VŠE in June 2012.
